The Columbia Bombshells Rugby Team
Man what a cool live shot. Today we were live at Owens Field and that is where we caught up with The Columbia Bombshells Rugby Team. This is an all female rugby team. The team came together in April of this year and to date it has about 20 players. The ladies are all shapes and sizes and they come from different backgrounds. I mean some are teachers, others work in retail and some are moms. Many of the ladies have some soccer or lacrosse experience, but the rest are new to the sport. Organizers say you don't have to have prior knowledge of rugby because they will teach it to you. I took part in a couple of the drills with the ladies. During this one drill I had to run with the ball in my left hand to a lady holding a pad. I had to knock her back with my shoulder. Then I put the ball down right there and ran back to where I started and had to tackle a dummy. I hit the dummy so hard Hannah (Sunrise anchor) said she was worried about me! I did bounce up off that dummy pretty high, but I'm fine. My shirt on the other hand did have plenty of grass stains! The ladies are so into their sport and it shows from the way they dress (matching uniforms), to the way they encourage each other to their competitive spirit. Here's what I think is cool, after a game both teams will get together and talk about the game so most of the time there are no hard feelings. The team is looking for extra women, so if you're interested I've included some information below.
