This weekend I attended the annual Bele Chere Rugby Tourney which is hosted by Asheville RFC. I enjoyed getting to see some rugby buddies that i've not seen in a while while also making friends w/ some new rugby folks. In addition, I also shared some laughs and memories w/ a few WCU Rugby Alum that I ran into. Ohhhh the good ol' days!!! I had an absolute wonderful time and was also proud of myself for playing so well in the tourney. Yay me!! Although it rained off and on throughout the entire tourney, that didn't stop anyone from playing and having a great day @ the pitch!
THANK YOU so much to the Asheville Women and the Raleigh Venom for such a WONDERFUL day of play! Our final match ended up being in the pouring rain and was hard fought by all. Everyone played clean, yet tough and most importantly it was SUPER FUN!! I look forward to next year already. Unfortunatley, my buddy (and my teammate) "Dirty" ended up fracturing her radius during our final match. I wish her a speedy recovery and full use of her arm again real soon.
The tournament wound down in the late afternoon, the rain ceased and the sun broke through (to which I acquired a bit of sunburn on my nose/cheeks). I took my muddy self and headed into Asheville where I hit the shower and washed dirt and grass from my hair for what seemed like forever. HA! I then headed into downtown Asheville where I took in some of the Bele Chere Festival (it's a festival that's held the last weekend of July every year in downtown A-Ville). I met up w/ my cousin Hillary, her hubby Shane and their sweet little girl Foster at the festival whom i've not seen in 8 years we finally determined. We ended up ditching the festival and hanging out at the house for the remainder of the evening. It was great! It's amazing to see how strong the "DuPree" genes are as Foster is definately a "DuPree". Hillary and I had an absolute blast catching up, talking about my recent trip to Ireland and laughing hysterically about Bridie, our crazy-ass Irish Grandma! It was refreshing to spend time w/ her and discover even more about my "roots".
After spending the evening w/ Hillary, I then met up with my dear friend Shannon. She and I went to Western together and we also worked together @ JCDPH. Oh my goodness.....we had an absolute BLAST. Makes me miss her even more so. All I can say is some things never change as the two of us are like Thelma and Louise anytime we are together. HAHA!!! In addition, while hanging out at Wild Wing Cafe we got to listen to the tunes of a fellow Western Alum, Matt Stillwell. Check out his music, it's great!
