Day 1 - A Long Journey to Ireland....

06-26-08

I arrived @ the airport and a tad stressed that I would miss my flight. After making it just in time, I settled into my seat where we were told that we’d be grounded for about 30min. Ummm….it was more like just over 2hrs. We finally made it to ATL, but then I was faced with making my connecting flight in about 10min. After hauling ass, I made it to the gate just in time as the last folks were boarding. I present my boarding pass & passport & the woman looks at me and says: “I have you as already having boarded the plane”.

HUH??????

Somehow I managed not to have a melt-down and kindly explained to her that there’s a serious mistake and that I can assure her I have NOT yet boarded. She proceeds to scramble around to which I then pleaded w/ her to let me run to the ladies room while she’s “looking into the matter”. She allowed me to go to the restroom, although she made it clear it was technically against the rules (rolling my eyes here). SO….instead of going straight to the bathroom, I instead ran into the airport bar (which by the grace of God happened to be located right around from the gate). I ordered a double whiskey, slammed it down w/ two dudes staring at me in disbelief and then returned to the gate to find out my destiny for whether I’d be allowed to board the plane or not.

I am told that there’s a mix up in seat numbers (which I don’t understand seeing how the flight was pre-booked w/confirmed seat numbers) but whatever, Miss Authority assigns me a new seat which ends up already being taken...so the moral of this story….I got the last seat on the plane at the very back of the plane. HA!
