Friday evening...France vs. Wales. VERY exciting match & exactly what this level of rugby should be. However, I was NOT thrilled with the effin' French coming out on top 21-16.
Saturday was a rugby rampage for me. I traveled to Ft. Bragg to watch my NCRU ladies play the Raleigh Venom in the freezing cold rain and mud. And I have to tell ya, I have never been so proud of my team. They stuck right in there for all 80 minutes and NEVER gave up. It was AWESOME! The first half we held Raleigh pretty well only giving up one try. The 2nd half was a bit more challenging. Even though we lost 29-0, it's of my opinion that this was a very respectable loss. We learned alot and I take great pride in all the ladies who played their hearts out on Saturday!!
As thrilled as I was to be there to support and cheer on my team, I admit my heart sunk at not being able to join them in the mud & play in this match. Coach (who likes to refer to me as "you're family now and you're like an adopted daughter or something") sat my ass down the night before the match to say "Turtle, you're broken, see a doctor." - Dr's appt made...I go April 20th and YES, despite being in pain most of the time, i'll likely be stubborn and play some rugby before then anyway. It's the Irish in me...deal with it!
After the conclusion of my ladies match, I jumped back in the car and returned north where I hit the sideline to watch Eno River host Southern Pines in the freezing cold rain and mud. (Thank you to my REI rainsuit for keeping me dry!) The men's match was your typical testoteroni match so i'll just skip the match report and move forward in saying that the social was super fun & the entire day was a great rugby day!! A special thank you to all the Moore County boys who entertained us & kept all of our lungs warmed up w/ some really swanky rugby songs.
Saturday evening late nite, some of us stuck around to watch Scotland vs. Italy. Scotland won 26-6 and from what I recall it was pretty boring.
Ireland vs. England was being aired Sunday @ noon, but b/c most of us had been so "social" the evening before, we were too hungover and/or tired to move Sunday morning. SO...finally after resisting the urge to look at the score of the match online, a few of us gathered Monday evening @ 11:45pm to watch the match being re-aired. We also spent the evening saying good-bye to Chef Paul Curly as he enjoyed (HAHA) his final nite in America before returning home to the land of green. Chef Paul has been here for about 3 weeks from Ennis, Ireland revamping the menu @ the Joyce. He's quite the character! We'll miss your evening taunts & whining Chef Paul, come back to see us soon!!! As for the match....Ireland won by 1 point (Ireland 14, England 13). Not a very impressive match for either of these teams. I left speechless.....and slighty irked that i'd stayed up so late to watch such piss poor play. But that's the kind of stuff us loyal fans do I suppose....GO GREEN!
And finally.....last night I enjoyed my first Monti experience. (For those who don't know, this is a story telling event held @ Alivia's. You can read more about the Monti @ http://www.themonti.org/. It's become quite popular & I look forward to going back again b/c there was some very talented folks who took the stage. I highly recommend it!!
