Despite a few rain showers & a bit of sunburnt skin, it was a great day of rugby in South Carolina today! The ladies kicked off with 8 teams competing in the Southern Belle 7's tourney. Congrats to "The Hustlers", who btw, are ladies that combined from the great state of NC and who won the tournament!! A big high five also goes out to the Charlotte Mayhem ladies who also played hard today earning the state of NC some more winning moments. Thank you so much to the Columbia lady ruggers for hosting this event! Good times were had by all and it was a great way to kick off the summer 7's season.
In addition to the ladies tourney, the USA Rugby Senior Men's Division Playoffs (Div I, II & III) also got underway today. I witnessed some great matches and some amazing plays, hits, breakaways, etc. It was just an all out awesome day of non-stop rugby! (I posted results from the mens matches at the end of my post.) The men resume tournament play again tomorrow, so get out there and check it out!!
A huge gold star goes out to Olde Grey Rugby for doing such an excellent job in hosting this event. I have been a part of this tourney a few different times when Olde Grey has hosted, and I'm hear to tell you, these guys work their asses off & do an amazing job with putting on this event. In addition, it was awesome to see so many high school ruggers engaged in and volunteering at the tourney this year. This is so inspiring. These young ruggers are the future of this sport. So please get out and support your local high school rugby team, as well as the local club teams. Thanks again to Olde Grey & all the tournament volunteers for bringing rugby to the south!
