FINALLY, I think I have landed a doctor for my celiac disease needs. This is a very magical moment for me and if my appt. on Monday goes as well as I'm expecting & hoping, I may just shed some tears of joy. Afterall, how can it go wrong when he's from Ireland where celiac disease is very prominent, properly diagnosed & treated correctly unlike here in the US. Oh, and he was the Director of the Celiac Center in Wisconsin before he moved south.
I've been battling celiac disease for years, but I've battling the healthcare system even longer. Finding a doctor that's knowledgeable about the disease, who gives a shit (no pun intended), that's on my insurance plan and one that offers good follow-up care has been a huge challenge. I am hoping that Dr. O'loughlin is the answer to my prayers. I have been experiencing a rise in symptoms over the past few months and looking forward to talking w/ him to see if we can figure out what's going on. Check out his complete bio below:
Colm J. O'Loughlin, MD
Dr. O’Loughlin graduated from University College Cork (NUI), Ireland in 1991, with an M.B.,B.Ch.,BAO (MD equivalent). He completed Internship and Residency training in Internal Medicine at The Mercy Hospital in Cork, Ireland, and Wythenshawe Hospital andNorth Manchester General Hospital in Manchester, England in 1995. He served as a subspecialty registrar (fellowship) in Internal medicine and Gastroenterology at Kings College Hospital and Greenwich/Newham Hospitals in London, England until 1997. He is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom and holds ECFMG certification since 1996.
He completed Internal Medicine residency at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston in 1999 and completed fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital in 2003. He was Assistant Professor of Medicine, Director of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and Director of the Celiac Disease Clinic at the Medical College of Wisconsin prior to moving to North Carolina.
Special areas of interest include Gastrointestinal Bleeding, Capsule Endoscopy, Celiac Disease, Colorectal Cancer Screening and Prevention, Pancreaticobiliary diseases and Endoscopic ultrasound.
