I am now 6wks post surgery and although I'm still not allowed to do much w/ my left arm (except 12oz beer curls as my PT likes to say), I have started to see some progress this week. I am officially sling free and I am starting to see vast improvement in my range of motion!!! However, as I continue to heal, I've unfortunately encountered problems in my neck & shoulders from my muscles tightening up. It's almost like having a crick in your neck 24/7. This week @ PT, I was treated w/ a massage from Brian (he works on the Carolina Hurricanes) to try to help the pain & stiffness in my neck/traps. He is AMAZING and knows his stuff!!! He said working on me was like massaging rocks. HA! I feel so much better, but there's still alot of work to be done in trying to get those areas loosened up.
I also had my 6wk check-up with my Dr this week. She is very happy with how things are progressing but remains concerned about my lack of sleep/discomfort level/other muscles tightening up so she's started me on Valium @ night instead of the Oxycodone. She states the Valium should assist w/ helping to me relax especially at night & with the spasms/tightness in my neck, shoulder, upper body area. We shall see....I'm not real thrilled about this idea.
In addition to my body healing, I feel like I'm trying to catch a cold. I slept 15 hours on Tuesday b/c my body was so exhausted. Hopefully my immune system will keep up the good fight & be able to knock out whatever germ is trying to work its way in.
In other news......I successfully turned 35 this past Saturday (Dec 12th). I hung out w/ some of my rugby buddies and together we went to check out the new rugby movie "Invictus". It was a pretty good movie overall and it sends a good message. Afterwards some of us dug into some GF birthday cake. It was tasty! Thank you to everyone for all the bday wishes. More updates soon....
