Well, March flew by and it was certainly a St. Patty's Day to remember. Now April is here and so is the massive amounts of pollen. Oh and apparently we're skipping Spring this year and going straight into Summer temps. It's been in the 80's and 90's the past few days. I have TWO WORDS to explain how I feel about summer temps: Swamp Ass!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter. Mine kicked off w/ a trip to Duke Urgent care where I was dx w/ an upper respiratory infection & a sinus infection. I tell ya though, Duke Healthcare has been so good to me. I was in and out of there in 30min and left w/ a good dose of meds to knock this stuff out. Aside from the hacking, I'm feeling MUCH better. And hopefully once the pollen leaves town that will make me feel even better. Although I spent a few days in the bed not feeling well, Roxy and I were able to get out on Saturday for a nice long walk and then on Easter Sunday we hiked 9 miles. It was HOT, but a lovely day to be in the woods. There were lots of ticks so be sure to spray yourself down if you head out. We also saw a snake on the trail. Always an exciting moment. Now if I can just figure out what kinda snake it was....
I'm continuing on my strict work out plan & so far it's going great! It's a combination of building my muscles back up in my upper body, running, spinning class & pilates. I'm running on the days my legs feel good & so far this is going pretty good. The Voltaren also seems to help. Today I completed 7 miles. This is a milestone for me and it also gave me the confidence I needed, but didn't know I was searching for, in knowing that come July 4th, I'll be able to finish the P'Tree Road Race. WAHOO!!! I'm so proud of myself and can't wait to cross that finish line.
Speaking of races, I have the Fallen Heroes 5k Race (for fallen police officers) in 18 days!!!!! Followed up w/ the Komen Race for the Cure on June 12th. You can access my Komen page here. My initial fundraising goal was $500. However, thanks to all my awesome family & friends, I have passed that goal and have since increase my goal to $1,000. Please consider making a donation to this great cause or better yet, sign up and walk or run with us. The more the merrier!!! Thank you so much to those of you who have already contributed or signed up to run w/ us on our team (UGA Triangle Dawgs). Lastly, I cannot say thank you enough to my dear friend Grit for his continous support & for whatever insane reason of believing in my fat ass. HAHA! Who knows, maybe he'll even be home from Asscrackistan w/ a cold beer for me @ the finish line. :)
In my spare time (insert laughter here), I'm staying busy w/ AMBUCS as we are officially chartered & I officially have the EIN number! If anyone is interested in getting involved in this awesome civic organization which helps grant AmTryke wishes to kids w/ disabilities, please contact me. It's a GREAT way to meet people, network & give back to the community. You can read more about AMBUCS @ http://www.ambucs.com/.
Lastly, Summer 7's is also about to kick off. I CANNOT WAIT!!
I hope to get in some playing time, but we'll see how strong the shoulder is on May 22nd & how the leg tests go on April 28th. In addition, there's lots of fun stuff already planned for this summer so I'm really looking forward to a super fun Summer 2010.
Okay, I think that about sums it up. Sorry for my lack in posting. Life has been very busy and unfortunately gets in the way sometimes. Until the next installment of "As the Turtle Turns", stay well and keep in touch!
