Training...things I'm learning

Training is no joke.  Your body requires you to eat healthy, hydrate appropriately, get adequate rest & strength train in addition to just running a shit ton of miles.  So what I'm saying is...training requires you to take care of yourself from head to toe inside and out.

I already eat gluten free b/c I have Celiac Disease.  Lately I've adapted more of a primal/paleo way of eating as well.  It's lots of meat & veggies which is great for your body as your body needs a good balance of protein, carbs, sugars & healthy fats.

Here's a few other things that I use to keep my body well cared for.

HYDRATION:  During the day I drink water...lots of WATER & more WATER!  But on an actual run it's important to maintain your electrolytes.  I use Ultima b/c it's not loaded w/ carbs & sugar.

ENERGY:  For energy (or carbs in some people's way of thinking), I use Organic Honey Stinger products.  OH MY YUM!!!!  And they provider excellent fuel for the body.

MASSAGE:  This is a rolling pin.  That's right, a $4.97 or maybe it was $5.47 rolling pin from the local store.  Some people buy an actual foam roller.  I'm a poor social worker, so I opt for being resourceful.  :)  I use this to roll/massage my legs and hips.  I also have an awesome massage therapist that I try to see at least 1x per month to help me keep my circulation flowing & release the toxins within as well as work out the places in my body that are angry.

RELIEF:  At times the body can get a little angry.  For example, I suffered from DOMS (Delayed Muscle Onset Soreness) early on my training.  So I would use these items to assist w/ reducing the inflammation & pain.

OOOOO LA LA RELIEF:  For additional relief/massage I utilize a Tens Unit (I find that placing the heating pad on top of the electrodes is also beneficial & provides good results).  The video above shows the Tens Unit working on my quad.
