"Do not resent growing old. For many are denied the priviledge"
The above saying may be true for some but it certainly does not hold true for my great aunt and uncle. My Uncle Bill is just over 90 years old and my Aunt Evelyn turned the big 9-0 this past weekend. I left on Thursday and spent a few days in Raleigh seeing my doctors, my friends and running errands. It was great! I miss NC and it's always good to go home every now and again!! On Saturday, I traveled the rest of the way and met up with the Johnson/Black side of my family (my maternal side in case you're wondering) in Richmond, Virginia. My family traveled in from all over (GA, SC, NC, TX & LA) to celebrate and surprise my Aunt Evelyn for her 90th birthday. Despite almost sending her over the edge with our presence (many of us she had not seen in 10+ years), it was a wonderful evening and a very special night for her. It was also a nice escape for my Uncle Bill who recently had a stroke and who has been held captive in a rehabilitation center for the past couple of weeks. He's working hard to regain the strength in his legs to be able to walk again. Although it was a quick visit, we had a lovely evening and it's always great to see family. Especially for us since we're all spread out and unable to see each other as often as we would like. My Uncle Bill and Aunt Evelyn are special to me because they used to live in the NC mountains at Kanuga which is located in Hendersonville, NC. They are the reason I love to hike and they are the ones responsible for introducing me to the beauty of nature, hiking trails, etc.
