Bulldawg Illustrated = A Contest to honor the late LEWIS GRIZZARD

Okay....if you're a true Dawg fan, then you likely already honor Lewis Grizzard in some way, shape or form & you respect that he's one of the many legends associated with the University of Georgia. BUT, if you're a die hard Dawg fan, such as myself, then you've read all of Lewis Grizzard's books (and you own a copy of everything he's ever written including having a dedicated space on your bookshelf for all of Lewis' masterpieces). You've also probably read as many AJC columns as you can possibly locate which he wrote during his days w/ the lovely Atlanta Urinal & Constitution. Lastly, you have also listened to audio tapes of him entertaining crowds w/ his stand up act. Oh and let's not forget, you've also HOWLED laughing more times that you can recall when taking in Lewis' hilariously brilliant writings/stand-ups to the point of nearly peeing in your pants and/or seeping tears from your eyes as well as later enduring a pain in your belly from laughing so damn hard.

So.....YES, I have read all of Lewis' books and I have collected them over the years to create my own Lewis Grizzard bookshelf shrine. I've also read AJC articles over and over and I continue to search the net for ones I've missed along the way. However, one of my fondest memories of when I first learned about who Lewis Grizzard was including his legendary association with the University of Georgia is when I was a kid living in HotLanta. As if it happened 5 minutes ago, I can recall plain as day sitting in the porch swing on my parents front porch as a kid with a walkman glued to my head listening to one of Lewis' stand ups or better yet, having one of his books glued to my hands reading one of his many stories. That porch swing & the humor of Lewis Grizzard was my time & my escape.

NOW, I know what you're thinking, what sorta parents let their kid read Lewis Grizzard books or worse listen to his audio tapes at such a young age (after-all, some of Lewis' stories are adult content). AND what kinda parents allow their child to sit on the front porch enduring what I like to call "Lewis Grizzard therapy" for hours @ a time? Well.....I'm not really sure what my parents were thinking, but as far as I'm concerned, allowing me to endure Lewis Grizzard @ such a young age was CLEARLY one of the most BRILLIANT things they have ever done in my upbringing. Think about it, not only was a history lesson happening in the making to which I'm now a part of and understand first hand, but it's also one of the characteristics that defines a TRUE, DIE HARD Georgia fan!! So thank you mom & dad! Lewis would be so proud and I have no doubt that if he was alive today, he'd honor your fine parenting (as it pertains to educating your child early on about him) by toasting you w/ oceans of vodka!

Anyway the real point of this post is that, in honor of the late Lewis Grizzard, Bulldawg Illustrated is conducting a contest to "educate" the younger generation on who Lewis Grizzard was and will always be as it pertains to the University of Georgia. Check out the link below for the the complete article and rules of the contest. I CANNOT WAIT to see what folks come up with for this....
