I love this time of year b/c not only do we get to gather with our family & friends around a plump n' tasty yard bird and give thanks, but we kick off the rivalry amongst college football teams. In my family, the rivalry is over the UGA/Ga Tech game, but we don't stop there....we also have a huge NHL rivalry going on. I'm a Carolina Hurricanes fan.....they support the Thrashers (a.k.a. "Trashers"). In addition, we've also got a 3rd component to our family sports rivalry tier....the NFL. I'm a Carolina Panther fan, they support the Dirty Birds, I mean the Atlanta Falcons.
I endured my first dose of smack talk on Thanksgiving Day over this years "Clean ol' Fashioned Hate" game (UGA vs. Ga Tech). I agree, Georgia may very well get their asses kicked tonight, but I also gracefully reminded everyone that @ the end of the day, Georgia still leads the series 59-39-5. Nuff said.....GO DAWGS!!!
We briefly talked about the Falcons vs. Panthers game where the Panthers beat ATL. However, b/c both our teams have issues this year, there wasn't a whole lotta trash talk that either side could muster up so that topic lay dormant this year and we stuck to debating college football & hockey instead.
Speaking of hockey......the second dose of smack talk started about 9:45pm last night & was brutal. My phone started blowing up immediately when the Canes gave up a win to the Thrashers. I endured a solid hour of non-stop jabs from my family about the outcome of this game. It was harsh......but hilarious!!
Whatever the sports rival is in your family, I hope it brings you as many good laughs and great debates as it does mine. Happy Thanksgiving to all my blog readers.
