Action Packed Weekend....

On Friday afternoon, the women's rugby match scheduled for Saturday (our 1st match of the spring season) was officially called off due to the winter storm that dropped in on us beginning Friday evening. I was out running w/ Roxy when on mile 3 we were all of a sudden being slapped in the face w/ snow. It just started dumping outta the sky. We completed our 4.5 miles anyway and then spent the rest of the evening warm and cozy @ home.

I decided to wash the 2 handmade baby blankets Friday evening that I had acquired for my patient who was pregnant and bed ridden @ 29 weeks with twins. Ironically @ 4am I got a call from her saying she was in the early stages of labor & was all alone. I threw on some clothes & headed for the hospital. We had about 4-5 inches of snow @ this point (depending on where you live). I stayed w/ her while she labored, but by noon contractions were strengthing and coming quicker, but she wasn't dilating enough and the baby's heartrates were becoming a concern. A swat team of Dr's and nurses came in and off to an emergency c-section we went. I was able to gown up and go into surgery with her. It went really quickly and smoothly. London (baby A) was born @ 12:40pm weighing 2lbs and Leah (baby B) was born @ 12:43pm weighing 2.7lbs. Both were immediately taken to the NICU where they will remain until they can go home. They are both doing really well and are starting to gain some weight already. I don't have any pics of them yet as I was unable to take any during surgery due to it being a high risk emergency delivery. But once I get up to the NICU I'll be able to snap a few.

Once I got home from delivery, I headed out for some much deserved wine and SLEDDING!!! Link below to pics of me gowned up for surgery and the sledding adventures that took place. I only went down a few times and was careful so as to not do anything stupid to mess up my shoulder. :)

Most of the main roads are cleared off but black ice remains a problem and none of the secondary roads have had much clearing. Roxy and I walked 4 miles this morning in the neighborhood and it was pretty much all ice. Both of us slipping and sliding @ times. BTW, Roxy is NOT a fan of the white stuff. She was traumatized @ the idea of having to potty in such conditions. She finally got over it or had to go bad enough that she gave in. HA!

Hope everyone is staying safe & warm. And I hope this shit melts soon so we can all get out and about safely.
