Mental Health Continues to Worsen...

As most of you know, I worked in mental health for years & it was/still is my passion. But due to reform and cuts we were all laid off. During the time that I worked in this area of the social work field, I had children on my caseload of all types of varying degrees, diagnoses and situations. In addition, I also worked @ Crisis & Assessment (which is talked about in the article below) where I evalutated children to determine if they needed psychiatric services including committment to psychiatric hospital facilities if needed. Anyway, the article below proves my point yet AGAIN about how broken the mental health system is in the state of North Carolina. This article absolutely disgusts me and breaks my heart. It gives a perfect picture of just how bad things have gotten for those who need services. I pray for the day that the state an this country stands up to do something about this and assists these folks in getting the services they need and deserve. So many of these children (& adults) are resilient and able to reach a level of functioning within our community when support and services are put in place. I know this b/c I used to see the success first hand in the children I worked with. However, due to constant cuts & ignorance and poor decisions made by the powers that be these folks are now left with nothing and situations like the one in the article below is just one example of what we are allowing our county, our state and our country to do when it comes to those who need mental health services. Such a disgrace.
