Working on the "new" Farm...

I got to check out what will be the "new" farm for Old Glory Legacy Foundation yesterday.  WOW oh WOW!!!!!!!!!  It's a beautiful piece of land with so much potential.  There is a lot of work to do, but it's going to be amazing!!!  Today I worked on what will be the stalls for the horses.  Had to do "police call" (a term that I learned is used by the Army meaning to clean up).  I combed every square inch of the stalls to ensure no metal, wood, trash, netting, etc. was lying around.  The folks who leased the land/farm previously didn't exactly excel in cleaning up before they left.  No worries though, we will get it done.

It took me a couple of hours to combed the stalls from one end to the other, but it's ready to go now for when the tractor comes in this week to give it a really good clean up & grading.  There were some other volunteers helping out today as well.  They loaded up the dump truck & worked on tearing out the drywall & electrical that will all be replaced in a small room located within the stalls.

I am really enjoying the opportunity to learn about farm life & horses.  This is something I've always been intrigued by and have wanted to learn more about so I'm really excited to a part of this journey as Old Glory Legacy Foundation grows.  In addition to the volunteer hours that I will continue to provide, I am looking forward to learning to ride, as well as possibly having the opportunity to learn more about (& hopefully be a part of) "horse therapy".  This type of treatment is something that I've had a little bit of experience with from the days when I worked directly in the mental health field.  I used to work w/ 2 different group homes where they would implement horse therapy into the treatment plan of the children that I placed there.  It was amazing to see how it assisted the children with a wide range of issues (i.e. anger, PTSD, Trauma, etc.).  And it was really special to see the benefits that horse therapy had on these children & the shift in their behavior(s), attitude, character, etc.  I look forward to seeing what Old Glory Legacy Foundation offers to soldiers and their families in this capacity.  I'm of the opinion that horses have a special ability to touch our hearts, minds & souls and provide healing to those in need.  :)
